About
Dr. Gunaratne completed his schooling and medical education in University of Otago, New Zealand in 2011 before embarking on his journey as an orthopaedic surgeon. After moving to Perth, Western Australia, he underwent extensive training and gained invaluable experience in orthopaedic surgery. Meeting his wife during his internship, they now share the joys of parenthood with their three young boys.
Dr. Gunaratne completed his fellowship exams in 2022. With a special interest in robotic and technology-assisted surgery, he leverages cutting-edge advancements to achieve precision and optimize patient outcomes. He has also pursued further training in direct anterior approach hip replacement surgery, a Western Australian upper limb fellowship and holds a PhD in the field of robotic surgery.
Drawing from his own experiences as a former state-level soccer player, Dr. Gunaratne understands the importance of an active lifestyle. His passion for sports surgery drives his commitment to safely and efficiently getting athletes back on the field.
Dr. Gunaratne holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor at Curtin University and is the recipient of multiple research grants supporting his growing multidisciplinary research interests. He has presented at a wide range of regional, national, and international conferences, and has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals. He is also actively involved in teaching medical students and trainees at all levels.
Dr. Gunaratne works at POSC, guiding patients through their orthopaedic journey with expertise, compassion, and a dedication to well-being.
